Business Unit Overview
Our Operations unit is the engine room of Superloop - responsible for maintaining and supporting all of our products and internal technical infrastructure to ensure the best possible service to both our customers and our very own business. Our Operations unit is responsible for ensuring that the business has the technical capability and capacity to deliver services to all Superloop customers ranging from Home Broadband to International Wholesale.
Role Purpose
The primary goal of the Senior Optical Network Engineer is to ensure the smooth operation of the Superloop network to provide maximum performance and availability to all customers. The Network Engineer is responsible for building, supporting, and maintaining all devices and services within Superloop’s global network.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain Superloop’s optical network infrastructure to support business growth, performance, and reliability objectives.
Monitor and optimise optical network performance, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues before they impact services.
Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex optical network faults and escalated incidents, ensuring timely restoration of services.
Contribute to the planning, deployment, and continuous improvement of optical transport network technologies and architectures.
Ensure compliance with network security standards, operational procedures, and industry best practices.
Maintain accurate network documentation, configurations, inventory records, and operational procedures.
Collaborate closely with Network Operations, Engineering, Projects, Field Services, Vendors, and other business units to deliver network initiatives and operational outcomes.
Support capacity planning, network upgrades, technology refresh programs, and infrastructure expansion projects.
Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in optical networking and telecommunications.
Adhere to all company policies, safety requirements, and compliance obligations.
Qualifications and Experience
Proven experience designing, implementing, operating, and maintaining carrier-grade optical transport networks.
Strong expertise in complex optical networking environments, including DWDM, ROADM architectures, coherent optical transmission, and network automation technologies.
Demonstrated knowledge of long-haul, metro, and subsea transmission systems, with a proven ability to perform fault isolation, troubleshooting, capacity planning, performance analysis, and network optimization.
Ability to contribute to network architecture and technical design decisions while collaborating effectively with vendors, Network Operations Centre (NOC) teams, project managers, and field engineering teams.
Hands-on experience with industry-leading optical networking platforms, including Ciena, Cisco, and PacketLight, with the ability to analyze and interpret optical link budgets, power levels, OSNR thresholds, and transmission performance metrics.
Experience with scripting and automation tools to improve operational efficiency and support the development of scalable, reliable, and observable network infrastructure.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in the design, deployment, operation, and maintenance of optical transport technologies, including coherent muxponders, fixed-grid multiplexers, ROADMs, optical protection switching systems, EDFA line amplifiers, and submarine line terminal equipment (SLTE).
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, mission-critical telecommunications environment.
