Business Unit Overview
Our Network Engineering team is the architect and custodian of the networks that enable our core product suite - connectivity. The team designs, installs, and maintains production networks to deliver maximum performance and availability for our internal and external customers.
Role Purpose
The overarching objective of the Network Engineer is to ensure the smooth operation of Superloop’s domestic and global Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks, providing maximum performance and availability to all customers. Primarily, the role is responsible for building, supporting, and maintaining all network devices and associated services within Superloop’s networks.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement scalable network infrastructure.
Monitor and optimise network performance.
Manage network capacity to meet growth and performance targets.
Oversee the operation of Superloop’s Layer 2 and Layer 3 networks to ensure stability, performance, and high availability.
Liaise with customers, stakeholders, and suppliers to resolve escalated network faults.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software faults through TAC engagement, lab replication, and detailed documentation.
Oversee lifecycle management, capacity planning, and optimisation across diverse network architectures.
Document and maintain low-level design documents (LLDs), high-level design documents (HLDs), concepts of operations (ConOps), and network diagrams.
Coordinate network commissions, migrations, and decommissions.
Conduct network risk assessments and maintain process and contingency documentation.
Enforce network security standards across all projects and tasks.
Stay current with industry trends and best practices.
Maintain strong internal relationships with the NOC, Provisioning, and Pre-Sales teams.
Ensure timely responses across all communication channels.
Adhere to all company and workplace health and safety guidelines.
Qualifications and Experience
Degree in Telecommunications, Data Networking, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a network engineering, design, or Level 2+ support role.
Strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals, including IPv4/IPv6, routing, and switching.
Working knowledge of IP/MPLS technologies (for example: IS-IS, BGP, LDP, RSVP-TE, L2VPN, and L3VPN).
Experience supporting and troubleshooting network services in a service provider or enterprise environment.
Ability to diagnose and resolve network faults using structured troubleshooting methodologies.
Experience working with network monitoring and operational tools.
Strong documentation skills, with the ability to produce clear and accurate technical designs and procedures.
Ability to follow change management processes and execute network changes safely.
Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable:
Experience working in a service provider network environment.
Exposure to vendor platforms such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, or Fortinet.
Understanding of EVPN, QoS, and subscriber management technologies.
Familiarity with BNG, DNS, and internet edge services (IP Transit, IX, CDN).
Experience with network automation tools such as Python or Ansible.
Industry certifications (for example: CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent).
